History of Egypt government

Egypt is one of popular and great ancient civilizations that was once commanded by pharaohs. This country is located in Northern Africa, along the Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and Gaza Strip.
Egypt’s capital is Cairo and currently practicing a republic type of government. Before this Egypt was a monarchy government style. The story began when Tensions grew between the Wafd Party and the monarchy following independence, and in 1952, the army, led by Gen. Mohammed Naguib, seized power. Three days later, King Farouk abdicated in favor of his infant son. The monarchy was abolished and a republic proclaimed on June 18, 1953, with Naguib becoming president and prime minister. He relinquished the prime ministership in 1954 to Gamal Abdel Nasser, leader of the ruling military junta. Nasser also assumed the presidency in 1956.

Thus the government is leaded by a president, as the recent president was Mohammed Hosni Mubarak. The administrative divisions included 26 governorates.  Egypt gained independence from the United Kingdom on February 28, 1922 and the constitution was written on September  11,1971.
